North Korean-based exploiters are still using the cash stolen in June 2022 to launder the money. According to on-chain data, which was published January 28th by ZachXBT, the criminals also transferred $27.18 million of Ethereum (ETH).
ZachXBT stated in a thread on Twitter that the tokens were transferred to six other cryptocurrency exchanges. He did not reveal which platforms received the tokens. Transactions were conducted from the three primary addresses.
ZachXBT claims exchanges were made aware of cash movements and some stolen assets were blocked. The activities of the criminals to launder the money looked very similar to those that were carried out on January 13, when $60 million was allegedly laundered. They were trying to launder the money.
The cash was shifted within days of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) discovery that the Lazarus Group, and APT38 were responsible for the breach of $100 million. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in a statement, stated that they had been able to confirm that APT38 and the Lazarus Group were cyber actors associated with DPRK for the theft of virtual currency worth $100 million from Harmony’s Horizon bridge.
The Harmony Bridge may make it easier to transfer between Harmony, the Ethereum network, Binance Chain and Bitcoin. A large number of tokens, with a total value of approximately $100 million, were removed from the network on June 23.
85,700 Ether was sent via Tornado Cash mixer to the address of the vulnerability. It was then transferred to other addresses. Cybercriminals used a privacy protocol called RAILGUN based upon Ethereum to move stolen cash totaling $60 million on January 13. MistTrack is a tool that monitors cryptocurrency and discovered that 350 addresses had been connected to the attack. In an attempt to hide their identities, these addresses were used on multiple exchanges.
Lazarus, a well-known cyber organization, has been associated to several significant breaches in cryptocurrency sector. This includes the theft of $600 Million from Ronin Bridge’s cryptocurrency exchange in March last year.
